The Starlink Mini Magnetic Roof Mount We Use on Our ProMaster

Looking for an easy way to mount a Starlink Mini on a van without drilling holes in the roof? This Starlink Mini magnetic roof mount has become one of our favourite pieces of gear for our Ram ProMaster.

One of the things we love most about van life is being able to work, stream and stay connected from almost anywhere. The Starlink Mini makes that possible. But then comes the next question:

Where do you put it on a van?

We wanted something simple that would get our Starlink Mini up on the roof with a clear view of the sky — without immediately committing to another permanent installation.

We ended up using a four-magnet Starlink Mini roof mount, and it's turned out to be a great solution for our ProMaster setup.

Why We Chose a Magnetic Starlink Mini Mount

The biggest advantage for us is simple:

No drilling.

Our ProMaster isn't just transportation. It's our home on wheels, and we're pretty selective about putting new holes through the van. A magnetic mount lets us position the Starlink Mini on a suitable metal section of the roof without permanently modifying the van.

The mount we use has four magnetic bases, along with an aluminum frame that surrounds and supports the Starlink Mini. For our setup, that combination gives us exactly what we were looking for: a Starlink Mini mounting solution that's simple, removable and easy to use.

A Simple Starlink Mini Setup for Van Life

When you're living or travelling in a van, complicated gear gets old quickly.

We like equipment that we can pull out, set up and actually use without turning every campsite into a project.

With this mount, our basic routine is simple:

  1. Find a suitable spot with a clear view of the sky.

  2. Make sure the mounting surface is clean and suitable for the magnets.

  3. Position the Starlink Mini on the ProMaster roof.

  4. Run the power cable into the van.

  5. Get connected.

When it's time to pack up, the setup can be removed and stored.

That's particularly useful if you don't want your Starlink permanently mounted to the van, and it can prevent theft as well...

Why It Works Well on Our Ram ProMaster

One reason we think this setup makes sense for van owners is flexibility. Van builds are constantly evolving. You add solar panels. Then a roof fan. Then a rack. Then you discover another piece of gear you somehow can't live without.

Roof space gets valuable very quickly.

Using a removable Starlink Mini mount on our ProMaster gives us the ability to change the setup later instead of designing the entire roof around a permanent Starlink installation. It also means we can reposition the Mini when we're parked if another part of the van is blocking its view of the sky.

Four Magnetic Mounting Points

Another feature we like is the four-magnet design.

Instead of relying on one central magnetic attachment point, the mount uses four contact points positioned around the frame. The magnetic bases can also be adjusted to suit the mounting position. It's a simple design, but that's part of the appeal. There aren't a lot of complicated pieces to deal with when we're setting up camp.

Starlink Mini + ProMaster = A Great Combination for Working Remotely

For us, internet access isn't just about watching Netflix at the campsite.

Being able to get online from the van means we can work while travelling, upload content, research our next destination and stay connected when we're away from traditional internet service.

That's where the Starlink Mini has been particularly useful.

Whether we're parked beside a lake, tucked into a campground or spending a few days somewhere more remote, having another option for internet access makes life on the road considerably easier.

The Starlink Mini provides the connection. This magnetic mount makes getting it into position much easier, and we can remove and store it securely in our van when not in use.

Who Is This Starlink Mini Mount Best For?

We think this style of mount is especially interesting for:

  • Ram ProMaster camper vans

  • DIY van conversions

  • RVs with suitable magnetic mounting surfaces

  • Weekend camper vans

  • Overland vehicles

  • People who don't want a permanent Starlink installation

  • Van owners who want to remove and securely store their Starlink Mini between uses

Just remember that not every van or RV roof surface is magnetic, so check your particular vehicle and mounting location before buying a magnetic mounting system.

Would We Buy It Again?

Yes.

It's one of those accessories that solves a relatively simple problem without creating another complicated installation project. For our ProMaster, we wanted a removable, no-drill way to mount our Starlink Mini, and this does the job nicely.

It's simple. It's practical. And it's easy to live with. That's pretty much our definition of good van-life gear.

A Quick Safety Note

Always confirm that your mounting surface is suitable for magnetic attachment before using a magnetic Starlink mount. Keep the mounting surface and magnets clean to help prevent movement or damage.

We recommend removing and securely storing the Starlink Mini before driving unless the mount manufacturer specifically states that the product is designed, tested and rated for use while the vehicle is moving. Wind loads at highway speeds can be dramatically different from conditions while parked.

Always follow the Starlink and mount manufacturer's installation and safety instructions.
